John Halter Award for Professional Achievement in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

The John Halter Award for Professional Achievement in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology was established in 2007 in the memory of the late Dr. John Halter. John was a loyal member of the Society for his entire career. He demonstrated a keen eye for new and important trends in biomedical engineering and he organized sessions at our annual conferences that introduced many of us to them for the first time. John was vigorously working in the field of bioinformatics when he passed away unexpectedly.

In 1999, the Best Poster Award was renamed in honor of the extensive contributions of Dr. Louis C. Sheppard to the education and research training of biomedical engineers and to the work of the Houston Society for Engineering in Medicine and Biology.
