Proffered abstracts are welcome in all areas of biomedical engineering research. In addition, abstracts may be requested in specific thematic areas that the program committee is seeking to emphasize. Advice on writing an effective abstract is available from a member who has served as a judge of many best poster paper competitions.
Abstracts should be submitted so that they are received by the Program Committee by 29 November 2005. Authors should fill out completely a separate abstract submission form (Word, OpenOffice) for each submitted abstract. Templates (Word, OpenOffice) are available to help in formatting the abstract. The format is specified in a PDF document. Abstracts may be submitted by electronic mail to abstracts@hsemb.org or on a CD-ROM or floppy disk to the Society's mailing address: 1720 Dryden Road, #221, Houston, Texas 77030. Authors are asked to size figures appropriately so that the size of the abstract document file does not exceed 2 megabytes, if possible. Abstracts may not be submitted by facsimile.
Authors are invited to indicate a preference for oral or poster presentation. If the authors' preference cannot be accomodated, the alternative presentation might be requested by the program committee.
For poster presentations, authors are asked to follow the poster preparation instructions carefully, taking special note of the size of the poster area. Posters having a student as the first author are eligible for the best poster presentation competition. Please mark the abstract submission form (Word, OpenOffice) accordingly to enter this competition.
For oral presentations, authors are asked to notify the conference of special presentation needs as early as possible and might be asked to bear the cost of unusual requests. Each room will be provided with a Windows PC having a CD-ROM reader and a USB port for memory devices and Microsoft PowerPoint software will be loaded on the computer. Authors bringing their own computers are asked to arrive fifteen minutes before the start of the session to setup and to verify compatibility with the projection equipment.
Presenting authors are expected to register for the conference. Because the conference budget does not enable the Society to defray the expenses of speakers, notification of rejected abstracts will be sent before the early (discounted) registration deadline in order to enable presenting authors to register as reasonably as possible.
